  8. Apple Computer Appoints James Buckley President of Apple USA
  9.  
  10. CUPERTINO, California--January 19, 1994--Apple Computer, Inc. today
  11. announced the appointment of James J. Buckley, 43, as president of
  12. Apple USA.  Effective immediately, Mr. Buckley is responsible for all
  13. of the division's sales, marketing, channel, customer service and
  14. support activities.  A nine-year veteran of Apple Computer, Mr.
  15. Buckley was most recently vice president and general manager for
  16. Apple USA's Higher Education division and was responsible for
  17. directing all sales, marketing, customer support and service
  18. operations to 3,500 colleges and universities in the United States.
  19. Mr. Buckley reports to Ian Diery, executive vice president and
  20. general manager of Apple's Personal Computer division.
  21.     "Jim Buckley's appointment as Apple USA president marks a significant
  22. turning point for the division," said Ian Diery, executive vice
  23. president of Apple's Personal Computer division.  "In his
  24. distinguished career at Apple, Jim has demonstrated exceptional
  25. leadership and management skills in addition to an acute
  26. understanding of the domestic personal computer market.  He
  27. definitely has the right set of skills and experience to lead Apple
  28. USA through our next era of personal computing."
  29.     "I'm excited about taking the helm of Apple USA at such an important
  30. juncture with the imminent introduction of PowerPC-based Macintosh
  31. systems," said Buckley.  "My objective will be to make Apple USA a
  32. more customer-focused and customer-responsive solutions vendor by
  33. increasing and accelerating customer involvement by all members of
  34. the Apple USA team and our distribution network."
  35.     Mr. Buckley held positions as Apple USA's vice president and general
  36. manager for Northern Operations in Norwalk, CT., vice president and
  37. general manager for Apple's Central Operations Group located in
  38. Chicago, area sales director of Apple's U.S. North Central Area, and
  39. director of educational sales at the company's Cupertino, California
  40. headquarters.
  41.     Prior to joining Apple, Mr. Buckley held marketing and sales
  42. management positions at Exxon Office Systems in Stamford, Connecticut
  43. and Xerox Corporation's Office Systems Division in the northeast.
  44. Mr. Buckley received a bachelor of arts degree in Economics from Iona
  45. College in New Rochelle, New York and has completed graduate studies
  46. in marketing at both Iona and Pace Universities in New York.
